Charlie Brooker
Writer, Producer and Broadcaster
Though he hates the word ‘satirist’, Charlie Brooker has made a career of examining the bizarre and maddening soap opera that is pop culture and politics, and giving us a space to laugh about it. Brooker is a writer, reviewer, columnist and presenter. He is also the creator and writer of the Netflix anthology series, Black Mirror, where he applies his wry, critical sensibility to an exploration of technology and humanity in a troubling near future.
Starting as a video game reviewer, Brooker was a regular newspaper columnist for publications like The Guardian and writer for the site TVGoHome. He presented the ‘Wipe’ series of TV shows (Screenwipe, Gameswipe, Newswipe, Weekly Wipe) where he reviewed TV shows, video games and even the news with a combination of thoughtful critique, sarcasm and outright mockery. His other TV writing includes Brass Eye, The 11 O’Clock Show, Nathan Barley and the five-part horror series Dead Set. Brooker is a creative director at the production company Zeppotron.
